I recently had the honor of taking my family to Washington D.C. and walk with my children among the memorials that honor Veterans that sacrificed their lives on behalf of our great country.
Standing in the middle of the World War II memorial, built to honor the more than 450,000 Americans that died for my freedom was humbling. The soldiers this monument represents who Lincoln would say gave their “full measure of devotion” were selfless patriots that put their families and country before themselves and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The brave men and women of our military inspire me. Stories about their incredible character that represent the foundations that protect our freedoms we enjoy as Americans make me want to be a better citizen. I read something recently about the character of Marines titled Leaders Eat Last that describes how Marines line up for daily meals. Marines believe the most junior ranking soldiers eat first and leaders eat last. This example of leadership place others’ needs above their own.
After these American heroes serve their country, they quietly enter the workforce to many different occupations. When military service men and women become teachers, it is something special for students. First, they dedicate their lives to protecting our kids. They spend the remainder of their working lives serving them. Please join me in thanking the veterans of our Wylie ISD family.
