The safety of all children is our highest priority and this includes ensuring they are as safe as possible walking to and from school. The city establishes school zones around each of our campuses to remind drivers to slow down and watch out for our babies. Yes, they can give you a ticket for speeding in these zones, but their primary function is to make drivers a little more alert when they are near a campus. And that starts with the blinking school zone signs.
The City of Wylie is in the process of converting all the school zone signs from the big yellow blinking light to ones with several smaller white and yellow LEDs. Also, the traditional “active school zone times” signs are gone. When these new signs are “blinking,” school speed limits are in effect. Here are the times for our school zones
Thank you for informing us that the new lights are hard to see at certain times of the day. We have passed your concerns on to the City of Wylie and they are looking at options to improve their visibility. They chose these new signs because they are in compliance with uniform traffic control devices used by other cities. Additionally, these new signs are synced, and can be programmed all at once.
We ask that you please be aware as you drive around our campuses, especially during school zone times. Thanks for helping keep our kiddos safe.
