It’s that time of year again.
During a recent shopping trip to Kroger, I heard a gentle shout of “we are giving them back to you” from behind me in the produce section, followed up with a laugh of excitement that their kiddo will be back at school Aug. 11.
Truthfully and sincerely, I am so excited to begin the first day of school and another fantastic school year. Finishing touches on construction, textbooks, and Chromebooks stand at the ready, volleyball and band are already in full swing, and Wylie ISD staff members are prepared to welcome your babies to their classrooms.
For educators, back to school time is a time of celebration, anticipation, and motivation. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year. It’s one of the most exciting times of our careers.
THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME
On Wednesday, July 27, the Wylie Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual New Teacher Luncheon. Fourteen of these new professionals are Wylie ISD graduates.
Among them, Sadie Byboth. Sadie is a beautiful soul who has lived in Wylie throughout her life. Her family is one we love and adore. Her presence in our district is just one example of the commUNITY that we have in Wylie ISD. We are more than just a school district. We are a family. We take pride in what we do, we support one another, and we work together to make a difference. Sadie’s smiling face represents who we are in Wylie ISD, and it represents who we want to continue to be moving forward. I am so proud of her and the other new teachers who will join forces with us for the 2022-23 school year.
Kameka Banks isn’t new to Wylie ISD, but she recently completed a unique program our district offers that provides scholarships to paraprofessionals with a college degree to become certified. Her hard work is so incredibly valued, and we look forward to watching her grow in her new position. The difference she will make in her classroom this year will impact students for years to come. Welcome to your first grade classroom at Hartman Elementary, Ms. Banks. We are so happy that you are a part of our Wylie FAMILY!
WELCOME NEW TEACHERS!
Hiring teachers is serious business for schools. Between 20 campuses, we will welcome 165 new teachers, 37 of which are “zero-year,” and 13 openings filled by Wylie ISD paraprofessionals who are now certified to become teachers. We hired many of these positions from the best of our student-teacher crop from last year. Teachers love Wylie ISD, and we love them more. We are blessed to fill our jobs. Many districts in the Dallas metro area are not so fortunate. With less than a few weeks left before school begins, more than 1300 vacancies remain unfilled.
There are tons of reasons why teachers choose Wylie ISD, from growing up here or simply working in the same place they live or grew up. Folks choose Wylie ISD and stay in Wylie ISD. We live by the school board’s goal of “Attracting, Retaining, and Valuing” our employees and constantly asking, “Why did you choose Wylie ISD?”

SUPPORTING TEACHERS
Parents, we want to do our best to help your kiddos have a fantastic school experience. Believe that teachers want the best for your kiddo. If you’d like to show your support, here are a few ideas that I know our teachers would greatly appreciate:
- Ask if they need classroom supplies.
- Stay in communication.
- Offer words of encouragement.
- Offer tokens of love, like Sonic drinks.
- Join your school PTA.
- Join your kid’s booster club.
- Practice patience, and pray for them.
We are excited to welcome your babies back to school and help our kids and new teachers have their best day. We believe in our kids and our families. Thanks for supporting and believing in us. It makes a difference, the Wylie Way!
