Welcome to a place where dreams are nurtured, futures are shaped, and inspiration is the cornerstone of our mission. At Wylie East High School, our “WE Teach” program stands as a shining example of excellence, recognized as one of the nation’s finest high school training initiatives. During a campus visit yesterday, I found a student teacher at Akin who embodies the heart and soul of this program – Haley Messer, a 2021 graduate of the “WE Teach” program, is now student teaching alongside Master Teacher Leslie Cobb, at Akin Elementary.
Haley’s journey holds a special place in my heart. She is the same age as my daughter Kate, who was just eight years old when she became a Smith Bulldog in Amy Andrew’s third-grade class. As I begin my 13th year in Wylie ISD, witnessing Haley’s growth as a teacher warms my heart and serves as a reminder that the love and care we invest in our children, the “Wylie Way,” has a lasting impact, encouraging them to return to a place they cherish and trust, knowing that we genuinely love them.
I encourage you to love each other and our kiddos boldly. It matters, not just for us, but for the potential educators we are growing in our classrooms. Haley is just one of the bright stars of our program. This year alone, TWENTY-ONE Wylie grads have embarked on their teaching journey right here, becoming a part of our Wylie ISD family and contributing to the legacy of excellence we’re known for. And that’s not all – a remarkable FIFTY-TWO graduates, will proudly wear a new Wylie ISD employee badge this year. Together, we can make a difference, empowering future generations to love, learn, and lead with the same boldness that grows future teachers, the Wylie Way!
