During the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, Aug. 15, trustees celebrated with campus principals. Confetti cannons set the scene to honor campuses for what turned out to be one of the biggest milestones in the history of Wylie ISD’s academic achievement. Goodness gracious, we should be excited and celebrating. The Texas Education Agency released its annual A-F ratings for Texas public schools; Wylie ISD received an “A” rating of 96. We could not be more proud!
Wylie ISD campuses also fared exceptionally well. Each of the 20 campuses received an “A” rating. Of traditional school districts with more than five campuses, our district is 1 of 6 across the state that had only “A” campuses. This is a feat that is difficult to achieve, but we did it. Our campus administrators, teachers, students, and staff members worked together to make it happen.
To put this into perspective, Wylie ISD is the ONLY school district with 10,000 or more students to earn “A” ratings for every campus and as a district.
One more time, for effect. Wylie ISD is the ONLY school district in the great state of TEXAS to earn this recognition. How cool is that?!?!?
DISTINCTIONS
In addition to campus ratings, each year, Wylie ISD and its 19 campuses are eligible for academic distinctions. These distinctions regard various facets of the educational system and allow for celebration in areas where campuses are closing gaps and making gains.
WHAT IS A DISTINCTION?
Wylie ISD was eligible for one distinction, and we earned that distinction. If districts demonstrate outstanding academic performance and have at least 55 percent of their campuses’ postsecondary indicators in the top quartile of their comparison groups, they receive a distinction in postsecondary readiness. Indicators of postsecondary readiness include STAAR/EOC performance, graduation rates, percentage of TSI Criteria and College, Career and Military-Ready graduates, and participation in SAT, ACT, and AP exams.
All of these qualifiers help us to maintain focus on working to ensure that we are helping to prepare our students for the future. Earning a distinction is a way of knowing that we are moving in the right direction.
Wylie campuses earned 73 of 109 potential distinctions. This is a huge accomplishment and a reflection of the work we do in Wylie ISD.
Five Wylie ISD campuses earned every eligible distinction. Congratulations to Dodd, Draper, Birmingham, Hartman, and Smith for the clean sweep!
