“What happens if?” I get this question a LOT! I love the questions because we learn and grow in knowledge and safety when these questions are answered. Keeping everyone safe and informed is our priority. As we wrap up our second full week and almost 12 days of the new school year, we wanted to remind you of what we have created to keep you informed and answer a few new questions relating to “What happens if?”
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS A POSITIVE CASE?
To keep you informed, we have established a Wylie ISD COVID-19 Dashboard to track these exposures and positive cases by campus. This is updated weekly. Dashboard
WHAT HAPPENS IF A POTENTIAL CASE MAY BE ON CAMPUS?
If Wylie ISD is alerted of a potential positive case or exposure on campus, we have designed a comprehensive protocol to investigate, follow procedures, and communicate as soon as possible. This flowchart includes a checklist, managed by the campus to ensure every step is followed and our kids and employees remain healthy and safe. Flowchart and Checklists
In the event that we have a positive case at a campus, even if there are no exposures (people who were in close contact), a notification will be sent to all employees and parents. This is a general notice required by TEA and will not require any actions for your family. SAMPLE Campus Wide Notice
We determine who is notified for further action based on our contact tracing findings.
There are time gaps between when a person has symptoms, when they decide to get tested, and when the results are received. In most cases, the notification date and the date of last exposure will not be the same. We are making every effort to send notices the same day that the lab confirmation is received.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE GET MORE CASES?
With opening schools, we have addressed how to exercise caution and move at the speed of safety. But even with these measures in place, there’s a possibility that transmissions and quarantines could disrupt our plan.
Wylie ISD has developed a COVID Response Matrix to establish thresholds that we will monitor, daily. The resource allows us to measure the impact of the virus on our campuses, ranging from minimal to severe.
At each risk level, we have compiled action steps to try to mitigate further spread and keep our students and staff safe, while ensuring we are meeting the educational needs and expectations of our community. Response Matrix and Action Steps
I am very proud of our team and this plan. We hope we never have to close a campus, but we are prepared. If we have learned one thing during the pandemic, everything changes. It is very important to mention these are guides, not standards. This map will keep us informed and guide Wylie ISD as decisions are required.
WHAT HAPPENS IF EVERYONE KEEPS BEING AWESOME?
Students and teachers are on campus, transmission is low, and health and safety remains a priority in Wylie ISD. I am so proud of our kids and employees for following our health and safety guidelines. Everyone has been amazing, and I believe it is making a big difference. Keep it up. These standards have been created based on questions received from employees, students, and parents. These questions help and are welcomed and valued. Together, we will make it through COVID-19 pandemic. We will learn, grow, and communicate, the Wylie Way!
