Navy Pilot Lieutenant Ralph James was aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga after the first US strike on North Vietnam. This picture was published in Life Magazine on August 21, 1964.
After serving his country, Lieutenant James became a commercial airline pilot for American Airlines for 32 years. In addition to raising three boys with his wife Penny, he continued to give back. Lieutenant James became Mr. James, serving as President of the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees that hired me in 2011.
This focus on service is a common thread that binds many together with a desire to give back to this country we love and appreciate. The following Wylie ISD employees also served in our military.
On Wednesday, November 11, we will take the time to celebrate our veterans. We are so grateful for these servants and want them to know how much we appreciate and care for them. We still plan to hold our annual Veteran’s Day celebration at Wylie Stadium. The Veterans Day Program attendees will be limited to the visiting veterans’ families and the ROTC cadets.
We are grateful to be able to host our annual breakfast for our veterans and their families. This year the breakfast will be located in the Wylie Stadium concourse to allow for social distancing. Breakfast begins at 9:00 am. If you have a veteran that may be physically compromised by attending in person, we are live streaming this event. Please click on the link below:

We are thankful for Mr. James and all veterans that are living examples of service and patriotism, the Wylie Way!
