Wednesday, April 14, 2021, is Wylie ISD’s Official Gratitude Day. We are grateful for many things that make our schools and the communities we serve some of the best in Texas. Today, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for our newest friend, the Collin College Wylie Campus. Higher education is a watermark few communities claim, and a school campus as nice as this is certainly a crowning achievement few can boast.
A Wylie ISD Board of Trustees Goal is to “prepare our students for a successful life beyond high school.” We take this very seriously in Wylie ISD. For example, the Class of 2021 has set the bar for Dual Credit hours earned with 4,570 college credit hours earned at the end of the fall semester.
This was an 858 college credit hour increase over the prior school year after just one semester! Compare this year to 2013 and look how we have grown.
MORE THAN DUAL CREDIT
The Wylie Campus offers a variety of traditional core classes which transfer to universities. In addition, students can earn certificates and degrees in several workforce programs including Urban Sustainable Agriculture, Veterinary Technology, Business Management, Insurance Management, Medical Assisting Advanced Practice, Early Childhood Educator, Health Professions, Real Estate, and Hospitality. In Fall 2021, the Wylie Campus will offer the new Vocational Nursing program.
A PODCAST WITH PRESIDENTS
We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Collin College President, Dr. Neil Matkin, and Board President, Dr. Bob Collins. Take a moment to listen to our Achieving Kids Podcast and learn more about Collin College, what it has to offer, and even a little about the connection between Collin College and Donnie and Marie.
GROW WITH GRATITUDE
As we see the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel, the campus will be completely open and college classrooms will be filled with Wylie ISD residents that now drive a fraction of their previous distance to a brand new facility. We are grateful for this campus and excited to watch it grow to be one of Collin College’s premier campuses, The Wylie Way!
