Americans are obsessed with achievement. In 1957, the U.S.S.R. launched Sputnik; and, in 1958, the U.S. Congress approved one billion dollars for the National Defense Education Act with the intent to achieve superiority in space by finding and educating scientists and engineers in American public schools. Just over ten years later, Neil Armstrong placed the first human footprint on the surface of the moon. These moments in history helped to make our country what it is today.
The mission of the United States Department of Education reinforces this sentiment by promoting student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.
This measurement is limited to results from student performance in math, reading, and science. When Wylie ISD graduates earn their diplomas, our concept of student achievement includes developing the whole child socially and emotionally with professional skills that prepare them for a hopeful and engaged life beyond high school.
We believe achieving students begin with engaged educators who love kids and foster positive relationships in their classrooms. These educators help students to discover their talents and define their passions that lead to a career pathway to achieve an education they value and jobs they will love.
On Wednesday, February 6, Wylie ISD will focus on helping students achieve during “Map Your Future Day.” Students from grades 3-12 will be working on their “Achievement Profiles” that will follow them throughout their entire educational experience in Wylie ISD. The custom profile includes academic data, a personal mission statement, character/work based on strengths, and reflections to help students guide their paths. We want to fuel students’ passions and help them to map their future. By doing so, we believe that we will be doing our part to ensure that students have a bright future ahead.
WEHS senior, Karaline Klakamp, and WHS senior, Maddie Quiroga, are shining examples of Achieving the Wylie Way.
Both Maddie and Karaline are leaders in their schools and are prepared for the careers they will pursue next year with their career experiences. Beyond their careers, we hope to build hopeful, engaged citizens who are prepared for the world AND are equipped with core ethical values to make it a better and more hopeful place.
Our hope is that the achievement profile will be a one stop shop for students like Karaline and Maddie to reflect, celebrate, and map their future with information that is important to them (and their parents). This is a great tool for talking with your child about his/her plans for college and career and his/her social and emotional feelings that help him/her achieve in school and in life. Please take a moment and log-in to the achievement profile; here’s how:
Helping students to achieve in school and in life by map their future is the Wylie Way!
