Because Wylie ISD is such a sought-after district, you may not be surprised to learn that we have people who come from far and wide to reserve spots in our classrooms. While we would love to accommodate everyone, we simply don’t have the capacity to do so. And, it is our job to ensure that we are monitoring student enrollment and attendance zones with the goal of determining whether all enrolled students live within the campus and district boundaries. We have a duty to serve and protect the students who have permanent residences in Wylie ISD, and we take this responsibility seriously.
MAKING IT EASIER
In order to do this work, we are relying on the help of you and others to provide documentation of student residency. Most school districts require every student to bring a utility bill to verify their address. Our amazing technology folks and secretaries have designed a report that uses addresses from local utility districts and matches them with home addresses found in our own system. Out of the 15,800 students we have enrolled in Wylie ISD, we have only a few thousand who have not been verified. This means that every student will not be required to bring a utility bill to verify their address. Instead, schools will simply contact those who do not have a “match” in the system.
We have also cross referenced our list with transfers students and enrolled in dual language programs. We are providing this data to campus registrars and are asking them to verify students as intra-district or inter-district transfers. Families that cannot be verified within our system will receive an e-mail from your home campus and will be required to provide a contract, lease, or current utility bill (water, gas, electric) to their campus.
WHAT IF MY STUDENT DOESN’T
HAVE A VERIFIED ADDRESS?
Similar to how we approach shot records, students in K – 5 will not be assigned to a class until proof of residency has been verified. Secondary students’ schedules will be held until their residency has been verified.
If a student lives with another family that resides within the Wylie ISD boundaries, and that student is unable to provide proof residency, the family will be asked to contact the Wylie ISD Educational Service Center at 972-429-3000 to discuss and process a residency statement. Both parties must be in attendance to sign papers granting residency.
ANNUAL RESIDENCY CHECKS
Residency statements will need to be completed each year. In addition, in order to verify residency statements, a Wylie ISD attendance officer will conduct random proof of residency checks during the year.
THANK YOU!
As families continue to make Wylie ISD their home, and our campuses approach capacity, it is vital that we make sure we are providing our services to those students who meet our enrollment requirements. While we would love for everyone to experience the Wylie Way, we must also pay close attention to guarantee that we are serving our kids. We appreciate the work you do in supporting these efforts, and we value the role you play in making Wylie ISD great. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
