My dad, who will turn 92 this year, still lives independently and regularly drives my mom, friends, and neighbors nearly 100 miles from our hometown of Dalhart to the “big city” of Amarillo for doctor visits. He has always been that kind of person, quietly and consistently serving others with humility and kindness. Through his actions, he taught me and my siblings to work hard, stay grounded, and always lead with gratitude.
That same legacy of service, perseverance, and heart lives on in Wylie ISD. And today, more than ever, I am Proud to be Wylie ISD.
Every year, we come up with a theme for the school year – something that captures the heart of who we are and what we want to focus on together. Next year’s theme Proud to Be Wylie ISD does exactly that. It’s a simple phrase, but it says a lot. We’re proud of what we have, proud of what we do, and most of all, proud of who we are.

From the relationships we build to the learning that happens in every classroom, there’s something truly special about this place. We want every student, every staff member, and every family to feel that same sense of pride.
In many ways, the heart of this theme echoes the lessons my dad taught me all those years ago. We’re not trying to be anyone else. We’re Wylie ISD, and we are proud of it.
A Moment of Celebration: Wylie ISD Earns an “A”
Last month, after a lengthy delay tied to legal challenges, the TEA finally released the 2022-23 accountability ratings. The outcome speaks for itself – Wylie ISD earned an “A.” The graphic below tells even more of our story.

These aren’t just numbers. They represent kids who kept going after a pandemic disrupted their learning. They reflect staff who refused to let obstacles become excuses. They remind us what’s possible when a community rallies around its schools.
We’re not being prideful, we’re being grateful. Grateful for what we’ve built, for who we serve, and for how far we’ve come.

Our Teachers: The Heart Behind the “A”
Even though Teacher Appreciation Week has passed, it’s still the perfect time to recognize the impact of our teachers. As we reviewed this academic data, one thing became clear: none of it would be possible without the dedication, heart, and hard work of our teachers.
Like my dad’s quiet example, their daily work may not always make headlines, but their impact is undeniable. They show up, they care deeply, and they guide our students with passion and purpose. They are the reason we continue to close the achievement gap that widened during the pandemic. They are the reason our students not only perform but thrive.
If you didn’t get a chance last week, please take a moment to thank a teacher. A simple note, a kind word…it goes a long way. They deserve that and more.

Looking Ahead: Carrying the Pride Forward
As we start to think about the new school year, let’s carry this pride with us. Let’s keep showing what it means to be part of a district that doesn’t make excuses but makes a difference.
In every hallway, every classroom, every conversation, we are writing the next chapter of the Wylie ISD story. A story built on excellence, grounded in character, and powered by community.
We are proud to be Wylie ISD.
