Kids who are hungry don’t do well in school. Hunger is a fundamental need, and it is something we take seriously. From our school breakfast and lunch programs to backpacks we fill with food and send home with kids we believe may lack the resources to receive nutrition at home, our goal is that Wylie ISD students never go hungry. The Christian Care Center is our local food pantry and is the primary local source for families in need of food and toiletries. That’s why, during the holiday season, we work hard to ensure that it is stocked with the food and supplies needed to support our community.
Teaching our kids the values of caring and giving for others is essential to growing students who understand, care about, and act on the needs of others. The Wylie ISD is a primary contributor to the Christian Care Center with our gifts and donations. Thanks in advance for taking care of our kids and our community the Wylie Way. Last year, we collected 82,000 items of food, and we raised $12,430 to help families with other needs. This is just one of the many ways that our Wylie ISD family has stepped up in the past to support those in need. I am always blown away by the acts of service in Wylie.
Collecting food for our fellow citizens is amazing, and talking to our kids about why this is important is vital. Please join us in breaking last year’s records with even more food and donations. Just as important, please join the discussion with our kiddos about the value and importance of recognizing and contributing to our neighbors in need. We have included a few videos to share with kids about “the life of a can” of food to help them understand how their donations help others.
We have also included a video we produced that focuses on donating with dignity. This video helps kids understand that what they contribute is important, and it helps them realize that their neighbor may be the person who needs help. It is important for our students to gain perspective regarding people who may need support and to build an understanding on how they can have an impact on those around them. These small gestures make a huge difference.
Thank you for guiding our kids to understand that we are not just helping our community; we are helping our students who are on our campuses and in our classrooms. Teaching our kids the value of caring and giving is The Wylie Way!
